The closing is to accommodate work by the railroad company on installing deck panels and repaving the crossing.
Westbound traffic will be detoured off S.R. 6 Business onto S.R. 6, left on U.S. 278, and back to S.R. 6 Business.
Eastbound traffic will be redirected onto U.S. 278, right on SR 6, and back S.R. 6 Business.
“We understand that the closure of West Elm Street on Tuesday may cause some inconvenience and delays, but it is necessary for repairing the crossing as quickly as possible and giving the roadway back to the traveling public and local traffic by the end of the day,” explained Kent Sager, district engineer at the Georgia DOT office in Cartersville.
