Jerry Hartline, who helped restart the Cedartown High School wrestling program two years ago and coached them during their inaugural season, will be back at Cedartown this year as coach of the wrestling team.
Hartline, along with the Bulldogs wrestling program, will host a wrestling camp July 24-25 at the high school. The camp will be open for any young men or women from kindergarten through 12th grade.
The camp will concentrate on the basic fundamentals of the sport. Topics to be covered include stance, various body positions, lowering level, take downs, top and bottom positions.
Campers will also receive instruction on other areas of the sport, such as weight training, proper nutrition and proper practice mechanics.
Helping conduct the clinic with Cedartown will be LaFayette High School Head Coach Lee Dandy and several of the LaFayette wrestlers.
LaFayette, under the guidance of Dendy, has won four state dual titles (2004, 2007, 2008, 2009) and he has helped several individual wrestlers win state championships at LaFayette. Coach Dendy will actually serve as the camp instructor.
The camp is designed to give the participants a maximum number of drill periods on all phases of the game. Participants will be divided into small groups to increase the improvement opportunities and individual instruction.
The camp will cost $50 per child and with a $60 fee on the day of the event. Participants should wear shorts, shirt and either wrestling shoes or tennis shoes. The deadline to sign-up is July 10. Grades kindergarten through the seventh grade will compete from 9 a.m. until noon. Grades eight and up will participate from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
All checks should be made payable to the Cedartown mat dawgs. For more information, contact Hartline at 706-506-0016 or Yvonne Lee at 678-988-7812.
