Rockmart police are looking for the man who robbed a local convenience store early Sunday morning.
Det. David Gowens said the Mapco store, formerly known as Fast Food Fuel, on Highway 101 was robbed around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The robber, according to what the clerk told police, was a black male. He reportedly used a knife to threaten the clerk.
The robber stole $50 from the cash register, Gowens said.
Gowens is asking that anyone with information to call him at the Rockmart Police Department at 770-684-6558.
The detective said the department has made some arrests in other recent crimes.
A suspect was arrested in the Ware’s Clothing burglary, which occurred May 16. Gowens said a man named Dustin Putnal, 20, of 282 Kimwood Dr., Cedar-town, was arrested the same day.
He is charged with burglary, possessing stolen property, possessing dangerous drugs, and theft by receiving. He was released on a property bond.
Gowens said an arrest has also been made in a burglary of storage units on Waters Street. He said four units were burglarized around May 20.
Scotty DeWayne Sumlar, 43, of 26 Garner St., Rockmart was arrested May 22. He faces four counts of burglary and four counts of possession of tools used for the commission of a crime. He remains in the Polk County Jail.
Gowens said had suspected Sumlar in other downtown burglaries but ruled that out when the Treasure Hut and Precious Paws on Marble Street were burglarized after Sumlar was arrested and jailed.
The detective said he was able to recover some items stolen from the storage units. He said items taken included hunting camouflage, deer stands, collectibles and tools.
Gowens said a suspect has been arrested for a burglary at Fairview Apartments at 840 Fairview Road May 27.
Dontavious Demond Darden of Rockmart is charged in that incident and is accused of stealing coins, cash and jewelry. Gowens said Darden may have known his victim.
