A Rome man wanted in connection with a robbery that ended with the death a Cedartown teen was caught by police Monday in Fulton County.

According to James Ergas, the supervisory inspector for the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, 39-year-old Bryan Edward Williams was taken into custody early Monday afternoon.

He was booked into the Floyd County Jail around 9 p.m. and charged with felony murder, felony conspiracy to commit armed robbery and a parole violation.

Ergas said officers were following up on information that led them to that location, but declined to provide details.

Williams told officers he had taken some rat poison, and he was first taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment before federal marshals took him into custody.

Rome police wanted Williams because he was the suspected triggerman in the death of 19-year-old Jeffrey Pledger of Cedartown during a violent robbery attempt on East 19th Street in Rome on Wednesday.

Williams is a convicted felon with a criminal history dating back to 1989.

Rome Police Capt. Terry Autry said the Fugitive Task Force was extremely effective in tracking down and finding Williams.

“They are great about helping when any local agency needs assistance,” Autry said. “They have helped us track down suspects in the past.”

Williams is the final of four suspects in the crime to be taken into custody.

Eric Bernard Hightower, 37, of 502 Brown St., was arrested and charged last Thursday with felony murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Trenton Tyrice Williamson, 18, of 406 Brown St., and Chiresco Rodriquez Montgomery, 28, of Cedartown, were also arrested and charged with plotting to rob Pledger.
