Police are still looking for a third suspected assailant in a West Pine Street armed robbery April 4 that left an elderly man bleeding from stab wounds.

According to Rockmart Police Department reports, two of the men have been arrested in the stabbing and attempted robbery of 73-year-old retiree John Brown of West Pine Street.

Ricky Lee Messick, 43, 851 Taylorsville Rd., Aragon and Dustin McClain Ward, 24, 88 Portland Circle, Aragon, have been arrested and remain in the Polk County Jail.

A warrant has been issued Travis Dewayne Proctor, 24, 88 Portland Circle, Aragon, but he has not yet been found, according to Det. David Gowens of the Rockmart Police Department.

Messick was arrested April 9 by a warrant from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office while Ward was arrested April 18. All three will face on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 7 a.m. April 4. Brown told police Messick had approached him earlier asking for money. Brown told Messick he didn’t have any money but gave him some change.

Brown told police Messick came to his home later with two men and he let them in. He said Messick asked for more money and he told him no.

According to Brown, Messick then went outside to a car while the other two beat him demanding money. He said one had a crowbar and the other had a knife.

Brown said in reports he fought off the two until they left but sustained two stab wounds to his right side and to his leg.

Brown was transported to Floyd Medical Center by EMS. He was treated and released, according to hospital officials.

Forget putting them in jail for life, put the on an island to fend for themselves. Far from anyone, with guard towers close enough together to shoot those that try to escape. We can then teach them a short course in self sustainability(i.e. growing their own food/killing for their own meat) and leave them alone forever.

If not an island, then put them somewhere in Antarctica.
