A ground-breaking ceremony was held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the construction site of the new Youngs Grove Elementary School, at the corner of Wooten Road and Youngs Farm Road, southeast of Cedartown.

Construction of the school will begin in a few weeks. Unlike other recent school construction projects in Polk County, this will be an additional school, not a replacement for an existing campus.

The new school is expected to alleviate some crowding at other elementary schools and reduce the use of portable classrooms.

Construction is expected to be completed before August 2010, in time for the 2010-11 school year.
