Interim City Manager Tommy Engram today said the commission is close to finalizing its selection. Cedartown may have a new police chief hired within a couple of weeks.
It's been a long process, but worthwhile as the commission has pursued a "professional approach" that is going to secure a high quality person for the role, he said.
"It's the difference between a quick decision and a good decision, and we're making a good decision," Engram said. "When you're talking about a police officer, you want to be extra careful and do due diligence."
The commission reviewed 66 resumes, including several from out of state. In recent weeks this was narrowed down to between 10 and 15 candidates.
Once the commission settled on issues such as salary and benefits, and these were expressed to the candidates, some 10 proceeded to come to Cedartown for personal interviews, Engram said.
