The Cedartown Panthers, a youth travel football team that competes in the West Georgia Youth Football League, accomplished something last Saturday that they had never done before in their brief two-year history.

“For the first time ever, we won every game we played Saturday against the Winston Raiders,” Panthers President Michael Atwater said. “I’m really proud of all the players and coaches for everything they did.”

In the first game of the day, the 5-and-6-year-old game, the Panthers won 32-0 to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Player of the Game, according to Atwater was Shamar Hudson who had three rushing touchdowns. He scored from 70-yards out as well as from 28-yards and 50-yards.

During the 7-and-8-year-old game, Cedartown won easily 40-0 to pick up their first win in four games. The Co-Players of the Game were Connor Bullard, who had 10 tackles on defense and one rushing touchdown on offense and Colby Pryor, who had two rushing scores. In this game, the Panthers held the Raiders to negative 19 yards of total offense.

In the 10-year-old contest, Cedartown won 46-6 to improve to 3-1 on the year.

“The entire defense was the Players of the Game,” Atwater said.

The 11-and-12-year-old Panthers won their first game of the season Saturday, downing Winston 12-0. Xavier Price, the quarterback, was the Player of the Game as he had one rushing score.

Cedartown’s 9-year-old team, who is 0-3 on the year, did not play against Winston.

“We have 14 first-year players,” Atwater said. “But they are improving each week.”

The Panthers 5-and-6-year-old team and the 10-year-old team are both two wins away from qualifying for a postseason bowl game with six regular season games left.

This Saturday, the Panthers will host the Bill Arp Falcons. The 5-and-6-year-olds will play at 11:30 a.m., the 7-and-8-year-olds will play at 1 p.m., the 9-year-olds take to the field at 2:30 p.m., the 10-year-olds kick-off at 4:30 p.m. and the 11-and-12-year-olds wrap things up at 6:30 p.m.

All games will be played at the Bert Wood Youth and Athletic Complex.

“I want to tip my hat to two of our coaches, Cedric Clark and Ryan Prince, I think they are doing a fantastic job,” Atwater said.
