Last Sunday Cedartown’s Krige Schabort raced in and won the annual ING half-marathon wheelchair race in Atlanta.

There were 40 wheelchair entrants and Schabort won the race in a course record of 49:14. In the women’s race, Amanda McGrory from Illinois won with a time of 1:05:36.

This marked the third straight year that both Schabort and McGrory have won the race.

“There were a lot of athletes there that do the Cedartown event,” Schabort said. “The race course took us to Piedmont Park and through midtown Atlanta. It was a very up and down course with a lot of turns.”

Schabort said he would like to thank his sponsor, First National Bank of Polk County, for sponsoring him and the Cedartown 5K event.

“I can’t go and participate without a sponsor,” Schabort said. “I’m very thankful for everything they do for me and for all they do for the Cedartown race.”
