Cedartown Panthers fall to Mt. Carmel
The Cedartown Panthers, a youth travel football team that competes in the West Georgia Youth Football League, had a tough outing last Saturday at Mt. Carmel.
“Mt. Carmel is perhaps the best team in the league, regardless of age group,” Panthers President Michael Atwater said. “But I’m proud of our boys. Each team is getting better and they are playing hard.”
In the 5-and-6-year-old age group game, the Panthers lost 18-0. In the 7-and-8-year-old age group game Cedartown fell 13-7. The 9-year-old age group game saw the Panthers fall 44-0. In the 10-year-old age group game, Cedartown lost 30-0 and in the 11-and-12-year-old contest the Panthers were defeated 16-0.
“The 7-and-8-year-old team is getting close to picking up a win,” Atwater said. “Each week they are playing better.”
Currently, the 5-and-6-year-old Panthers are 2-1 on the season and the 10-year-old Panthers are also 2-1. The other three teams are 0-3.
“The 11-and-12-year-old team hasn’t won yet but their defense is stepping up and playing better each time out,” Atwater said.
Atwater said the Coaches of the week were the 7-and-8-year-old coaches and the Player of the week was Chance Tomlin, a member of the 7-and-8-year-old team who recorded 10 tackles against Mt. Carmel.
“We’ve got some kids who are playing hard,” Atwater said.
The Panthers visit Winston this Saturday, with play starting at 10 a.m. Cedartown’s next home game is Sept. 27, and they will host Bill Arp at the Bert Wood Youth and Athletic Complex that day.
