Updated at 7:30:    Cedartown police are identifying the two men suspected of stealing a car and leading police on a chase through town.   Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome said the men are Kyrie Brown, 19, of Pace St., Cedartown and Kieran Jackson, 18, of Marshall St., Cedartown.   He said Brown was arrested near the scene after a short foot chase. Jackson was arrested later in the evening after the city's K-9 team found him in the woods after an hour of dog tracking.   "I would like to commend the K-9 team, Officer John Zucker and Kye. They did an excellent job to help apprehend this suspect," Newsome said.   The duo are currently charged with theft by receiving stolen property with other charges being determined on Thursday, he said.   Both are in the Polk County Jail.   Newsome said additional details are coming out about the chase. He said pair bailed out of the Kia they were in while it was rolling down a hill on Central Street. The car then struck the side of a telephone pole, went into a yard, struck a brick mailbox and ultimately struck a parked vehicle.

Cedartown police have two people in custody after a police chase ended in a wreck on Central Street.

Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome said he isn't currently releasing the names of those arrested just yet. He said names and details will be released once suspects are positively identified and booked.

Newsome said a patrol officer was on the road around 5 p.m. when the officer spotted the driver of a Kia and, based on past police experience, believed that driver was unlicensed. The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop but the driver fled, Newsome said.

The chase continued for several blocks along the Robert L. Parks Street area and headed west on Central Street. The driver crashed into a brick mailbox, went through a yard and struck a parked vehicle in the area of 613 Central Street, Newsome said.

The driver and a passenger then fled on foot in separate directions, he said. Police went on a foot chase and apprehended one, he said. Later, thanks to K9 units, the second suspect was found about an hour later.

As events unfolded, Newsome said 911 advised police the car was reported stolen.

Newsome said both will likely face a multitude of charges with the driver facing a variety of traffic violations, criminal damage to property, and fleeing and attempting to elude, and theft by receiving for driving a car reported stolen.
