Hundreds of children flocked to the Nathan Dean Sports Complex in Rockmart on Saturday with their parents, grandparents, guardians and other family members to participate in the 2013 Rockmart Little League and recreation fast-pitch softball league Opening Day ceremonies.

The day started with a parade, followed by opening ceremonies at the Nathan Dean Sports Complex. Little League held their ceremonies on one of their baseball fields while the recreation fast-pitch softball league conducted their ceremonies on one of their softball fields.

During the Little League ceremonies, the seventh annual Danny Forsyth, Jr. volunteer award was given out. This year, Bobby Hitchcock won the award, which is given in honor of Forsyth, Jr. who had been a volunteer, umpire, coach and board member.

Isaac Streetman sung the National Anthem during the Little League ceremonies.

This season marks the 61st season of Little League baseball in Rockmart.

The softball ceremonies, meanwhile, featured Rockmart High School athletic director and head football coach Dan Duff as the special speaker.

In addition to Duff, members of all-star teams from last season were honored, especially the 10-and-under GRPA all-star team from last season that won the state title.

After each league held their ceremonies, games got under way.
