ATLANTA — The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles has appointed a new director for its field operations division.

David Morrison will lead the division responsible for the supervision of nearly 24,000 parolees across the state. His appointment is effective April 1.

Morrison has been the assistant division director since August 2010. His parole career began in 1999 as a parole officer in Marietta. He has held a variety of positions in the parole system.

He has also worked with federal immigration officials to codify the practice of deporting foreign-born inmates.

Morrison has a bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of West Georgia and is set to graduate this year from Columbus State University with a master's in public administration through the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College.
