Georgia sophomore Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was voted the SEC Player of the Year by the conference’s 14 head coaches, the SEC office announced Tuesday.

Caldwell-Pope, a 6-foot-5 guard, leads the Bulldogs and ranks second in the SEC in scoring at 18.0 points per game.

He ranks among the SEC leaders in nine categories, and has led Georgia in scoring in 28 of 31 regular-season games.

He also had 15 games in which he was the leading rebounder for the Bulldogs, who face LSU in the SEC tourney on Thursday.

Caldwell-Pope is one of just nine players in all of NCAA Division I to have scored in double figures in each of his team’s games.

Georgia guard Charles Mann was named to the Coaches’ SEC All-Freshman Team.

Mann, a 6-4 guard from Alpharetta has started at point guard in eight of Georgia’s 31 games this season.

He leads the Bulldogs in assists with 87 and ranks second in free-throw attempts (156).

with 156 and is third in scoring at 6.5 points per game.

Twice he has scored his season high of 18 points, most recently on March 2 in the Bulldogs’ second win over Tennessee.

Caldwell-Pope becomes the Georgia player to win the Coaches’ POY award since its official inception in the 1986-87 season.

He’s just the second Bulldog to win any SEC Player-of-the-Year trophy since wire services began naming recipients in 1965.

Dominique Wilkins won the award in 1981, also as a sophomore, as given by the Associated Press and United Press International.
