“I am proud that these young men are passionate about the sport and are taking opportunities to get better on an individual basis,” Cedartown head coach Jerry Hartline said. “Brandon Brame competed in the 98 pound division and came in fifth and Cody Tibbetts competed in the 126 pound class and finished seventh.”
At state, Brame opened the tournament by pinning Aaron Aguirre of the Calhoun Takedown Club. In round two, Brame won by a 12-2 major decision over Will Shirley of Fischers Wrestling Academy. In the quarterfinal round, Brame took down Avi Lyons of Wheeler Wrestling Club by a 7-3 decision. Brame then fell in the state semifinals to Dustin Nelson of Wrestling U of Georgia by decision, 6-3.
In the consolation semifinals, Brame lost to Logan Warwick of Team Wicked by decision, 8-6.
Tibbetts, meanwhile, pinned Cole Dillard of Tifton Takedown Club in the opening round and but then lost to Robert Durham of Habersham Central High School Wrestling in round two by pinfall.
Tibbetts bounced back in the consolation bracket to pin Bo Ly of Carroll County Recreation Wrestling and Noah Floyd of Druid Hills Wrestling Club.
In his fifth match, Tibbetts won by a major decision over Aaron Hillard, 9-0. Tibbets lost his sixth match to Christopher Blackston of Adairsville Wrestling by decision, 4-0.
“This upcoming weekend we will send Jonas Ritter, Jordan Watkins and Brame to the Dixie Duals in Birmingham, Ala. They will be competing with Team Asylum.”
Rockmart’s Logan Warren represented his community at the freshmen state tournament and he went 2-1 in the 195-pound division.
Warren received a first round bye before pinning Nolan Cleary of NewRock Wrestling Club in 32 seconds. Warren then pinned David Galaviz to advance into the championship match. In the title match, Warren lost to Felipe Silva of the Wheeler Wildcats.
Brantley Pope-Milhollan also represented Rockmart at the tournament in the 138-pound weight class and went 1-2. Milhollan received an opening round bye before pinning Michael Curran of Lassiter Junior Wrestling Club in round two.
Milhollan then lost in the quarterfinals to Christopher Johnson of Junior Wolverines Wrestling Club by decision, 7-3. In his final match, Milhollan lost to Earnest Johnson, Jr. of Stephenson Wrestling Club by decision 8-2.
