Playing at home against Coosa, both the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs lost their season openers. The Lady Bulldogs, coached by Chandler Gray, lost 1-0 to the Lady Eagles. The Bulldogs, coached by Lynda Wiggins, fell to the Eagles 3-1.
“We gave up one fluke goal,” Gray said about the young Lady Bulldogs game. “I was very happy with our defensive play. We used a five player rotation at defender and other than a fluke goal, the defense did a great job.”
Gray noted the play of goalie Makeny Youngblood.
“She is our keeper and she was lights out,” Gray said. “Makenzy directs the defense very well and she makes all the routine stops you would expect her to make. Then she makes the stops that just amaze you.”
Gray also had positive things to say about other players.
“We have worked on clearing the ball back into the offensive third of the field,” Gray said. “Our forwards are a very fast group, so they pick up the ball and make runs on the goal. Monday it was actually a midfielder, Sara Bahena, that really had some quality runs.”
Bahena had about five break away runs, Gray said.
“They were beautifully executed,” Gray said. “She just couldn’t get any of them between the posts.”
Despite the loss, Gray saw a lot of positives.
“I was very happy with our overall performance,” Gray said. “We were just about a half step off.”
The Bulldogs lost their contest to the Eagles by two goals, 3-1.
Members of the Bulldogs squad are Ariel Alonso de la Sierra, Erick Alvarez, Alex Carmona, Fernando Barrientos, Bryan Chiquel-Gonzales, Jaime Flores, Oscar Flores, Jonatan Gomez-Ramirez, Gilberto Hernandez, Alan Lopez, Yuvi Gomez, Rony Mendez, Diosvany Morillon, Jose Nunez, Alfredo Segura, Eduardo Segura, Jose Segura, Jerry Ramos, Bradley Thomason, Luis Torres, Francisco Trujillo and Raymond Velasquez.
