The following is a list of events going on in and around Polk County today, Feb. 27:

1. The Cedartown Senior Citizen Nutrition Center located next to Bert Wood Park has activities Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seniors 55 and older may participate in activities. Seniors 60 and older may participate in activities as well as nutritional meals and trips.

2. AARP Tax-aide will once again be available at the Cedartown Library this year. This program provides free tax preparation and assistance to low and middle income taxpayers with special attention to those 60-years-old and over. The program began on Feb. 6, 2013 and continue every Wednesday until April 10, 2013. Assistance will be provieded from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those interested are encouraged to come early to sign up as there are a limited number of returns that can be prepared daily. Registrants need their social security cards and ID.

3. The Polk School District Board of Education will meet in special session at the central office on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.

4. The Rockmart Civic Arts Commission 316 N. Piedmont Ave., Bldg. 300, Rockmart, holds open studio pottery classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with Instructor Paul Craighead. Classes are $15 per session. For more information call 706-843-5302.
