A Rockmart teen suspected in several burglaries is in the Polk County Jail on new charges.

Charvis Deonta Davis, 17, of Rockmart, was arrested Monday, Jan. 21, at his 608 Jones Ave. residence after police responded to a call of a nearby burglarized home, according to Rockmart Police Department (RPD) reports.

Davis is currently in jail on one charge of burglary and one charge of obstruction.

Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells said Davis remains a suspect in a home invasion on Hutchins Mountain Road and was out on bond on those charges when he was arrested Monday.

Police list Davis as a suspect in other unsolved burglaries as well, Sorrells said.

Reports state an insurance agent was at a Forrest Avenue address taking pictures around 12:30 p.m. Monday when he saw a broken window with a wrench on the sill.

The house had been ransacked and police found an empty gun case, reports said.

Officers had seen Davis in the area on the way to the burglarized home, according to reports.

Reports state an officer spotted Davis as he was leaving Forrest Avenue and attempted to stop to talk to him.

That’s when Davis allegedly fled on foot and ran to his house on Jones Avenue, reports state. The officer forced his way into the home and took Davis into custody, according to reports.

The Forrest Avenue homeowner told police a Taurus .45-caliber pistol and a .22-caliber Browning pistol should have been found in the home.

Reports state police fear at least one of the weapons may have been thrown into the shrubbery at a nearby day care center.

Police said neither has been found although officers conducted a widespread search in the area of the burglary.

However, a Taurus .45 caliber magazine was found in front of Davis’ residence. The officer involved in the chase said in reports that he saw Davis drop the magazine.

The homeowner has confirmed the magazine belonged to him, according to Sorrells.
