Competing at the middle school area championships in Rockmart, the Bulldogs placed third overall as a team for their best team finish in school history.
The MatDawgs took 13 wrestlers to the area tournament, and 10 of them placed.
Calvin Ragsdale, Will McLendon, and Tyler Blalock each won first place in their respective age divisions.
Ragsdale went 3-0 in the 132-pound weight division to win the championship. He pinned Coosa’s Josh Ruff, won by major decision over Chattooga’s Levi Hamilton and then pinned Armuchee’s Cameron Carter.
McLendon went 2-0 in the 80-pound weight class, pinning Rockmart’s Hunter England and then defeating Armuchee’s Luke Purdy by decision to take home first place.
Blalock went 2-0 in the 185-pound weight division to take home first. He pinned Model’s Austin Shortnacy and then pinned Armuchee’s Chase Shepard.
David Stocks (112 pounds), Cade Smith (125 pounds) and James Sines (152 pounds) all took second place. Coming in third were Bobby Easterwood (70 pounds), Jesse Kirkpatrick (95 pounds) and Patrick Ballew (139 pounds). Dalton Bowman (103 pounds) came in fourth.
As a team, the Bulldogs tallied 166 points to finish third out of eight teams. Model (246 points) and Pepperell (181 points) finished ahead of Cedartown.
Other teams competing were Armuchee, Rockmart, Darlington, Chattooga and Coosa.
According to Cedartown High School head coach Jerry Hartline, only 13 of the 18 wrestlers on the middle school roster were taken to area beause they were the varsity middle school wrestlers and they were the only one's eligible to compete.
Members of the 2012-13 team are Patrick Ballew, Tyler Blalock, Dalton Bowman, Ricky Brooks, Brendan Clement, Bobby Easterwood, Jacob Groves, Jesse Kirkpatrick, Levi Lafitte, Will McLendon, Calvin Ragsdale, James Sines, Cade Smith, David Stocks, Isaiah Stocks, Graham Taff, John Watkins and Levi Womack.
Mat managers are Mackinzie Beevens, Maddie Bowman, Katy Blalock, Brooklyn Brame and Taylor Marsh.
Coaches are James Bowman, Shannon Smith, Kelly McLendon and Greg Orebaugh.
