The body of a young man found dead in a Rockmart ditch yesterday morning has been identified.

Police have identified the victim as 19-year-old Rockmart resident Desmond Ray Kinnemore.

Officials confirmed the identity Wednesday and said the victim was a resident of Morgan Valley Road, according to Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells.

Police are treating the incident as a homicide and are continuing to investigate possible leads, but do not have any suspects at this time, Sorrells said.

Kinnemore was found in a ditch at the Second Street intersection with Morgan Valley Road Tuesday morning.

Officials believe the victim died from a gunshot wound. Detectives found a shell casing near the body and additional evidence was found in a vacant house at 306 Second St., Sorrells said.

The victim’s body was sent to the Georgia Crime Lab for a full autopsy which will determine the official cause of death.

Area residents called 911 the morning of the incident to report gunshots, according to Sorrells. However, he said none of those hearing the shots could tell police exactly what time they occurred, how many they heard or any additional other details.
