He was born on April 9, 1931 in Polk County the son of the late Josh Leonard Hulsey and Mary Lou Forrister Hulsey.
Rev. Hulsey’s service to Jesus Christ began over 53 years ago when he accepted the call as a Baptist minister. During his tenure as a minister he had served a total of six Baptist churches and had ministered to thousands of people over the course of his career.
Rev. Hulsey was one of the oldest practicing Baptist ministers in the state of Georgia. One of his greatest accomplishments was being pastor of the Friendly Baptist Church, where he had served his congregation with love, dedication and loyalty for the past 35 years.
Rev. Hulsey was a member of the Polk/Haralson Baptist Association as well as a member of the Georgia Baptist Association.
He was a proud member of the Georgia National Guards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet O’Neal Vines; brothers, Harlin, Marlin and Harold Hulsey and sisters, Evelyn Noel and Lucille Hulsey.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Charlotte Campbell Hulsey; sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Robert and Rhonda Hulsey, Jimmy and Diana Hulsey, Ricky and Patricia Hulsey, the Rev. Jeff and Lisa Hulsey and Craig Hulsey; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Terry Payton, Linda Maples and Jim Wall and Juanita and Chuck Johnson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Verdell and Faye Hulsey, Kenneth and Joan Hulsey and Roger and Debbie Hulsey; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Hugh Green, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. from the Friendly Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Huffsteller, Rev. Chester Pesnell and Rev. James Brewer officiating.
Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Jerome Smith officiating.
Full military honors were conducted by the Brewester-Ceveland Post No. 86 Honor Guard.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Eric Johnson, Dustin Maples, Matthew Hulsey, Derek Mann, Jason Hulsey and Lonnie Nale.
Ministers of Polk County served as honorary pallbearers.
