Presents from Public Safety is the theme selected for a fun-filled event for children residing in Aragon.

At 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, police, fire and EMS staff will be present to hand out gifts to about 350 kids from Pre-K to grade 5.

Police Chief Wayne Sanders, Fire Chief Frank Matthews and Marty Robinson, Redmond EMS, have given the green light to the project.

“We want all our children to know that we care for them,” said Jennifer Delgado, organizer.

The idea is to change the perception many children have of police officers, firemen and EMS personnel.

“These people put their lives on the line to protect these children and their parents,” Delgado said. “They want to show the kids they are here to help them. It is their job.”

The gifts will be purchased with funds provided by staff from each department involved.

A goal of $600 was set and reached, according to Delgado.

Plans are to serve refreshments and distribute safety information to parents.

“We want to make it an occasion the kids won’t forget plus giving them something to enjoy during the holidays,” Delgado said.
