No lack of school spirit here. Cedartown students, along with local residents, packed the stands clad in red T-Shirts. (Aimee L. Harmison)
Rockmart's stadium "The Rock" was packed to the max Friday night as the battle of Polk County was fought out under the bright lights.

It was great to see so much excitement for this ballgame. There was some pretty sloppy football played by both teams but with it being the 1st regular season game, I guess some of that is to be expected. I wanted to mention the traffic situation. I won't even pretend that I have a solution to the problem and our police probably did the best they could under the circumstances, but we could have used a little more help from the local authorities with the pre-game traffic and a little less help with the post-game traffic. The pre-game traffic was crazy and dangerous with impatient people flying up in the left lane on Hwy 113 and then expecting the people patiently waiting in the right lane to let them over once the got close to the RHS entrance. Really obnoxious because I refuse to believe that they didn't realize that long line of traffic was for anything except the ballgame. After the game, the police were only allowing cars exiting from Knox Mtn Rd to turn right towards Cartersville which then caused additional danger as those cars then either turned around in the Emmanual church parking lot or did a U-turn on 113 to get back to Hwy 278 which is the most common way to get back to Cedartown (obviously). Not sure what they were trying to accomplish with that, but it was a mess.

Coach Duff has never had a team he had confidence in. He shows that every game in the first half when instead of using a two minute offence and trying to go in with the momentum he has them run plays up the middle. What was they saving the timeouts for when Cedartown had the ball with over four minutes left in the fourth quarter? You are down by two scores. Use the timeouts on defense. On offence you have ways of stopping the clock by incomplete passes or using the sidelines. And for goodness sakes don't take thirty seconds off the clock getting the play called.

They pretty much had to run 8 in the boxs every play cause of Cedartowns running game.Cedartown had no passing game what so ever so the Defense play calling wasn't the problem.Cedartown will soon have big problems without the passing game in the near future.

i agree buzz and coach duff what was up with the defense we were running a goal line defense on every down.

Coach Duff you been coaching long enough to know not to play that many people both ways. You have 23 seniors no reason for all of them not playin.I know not all of them are Superstars, but a fresh team in the 4th quarter beats Cedartown handly.

Cedartown didn't win it,Rockmart lost it.They might have won it on the scoreboard, but when you have turnover and penalties on 4th down like Rockmart did you aren't going to win many. Also like the holding call after the whistle blew in the 2nd Quarter.Never heard of a holding call after the whistle blew on Defense.Thats Nuts!!

Go Cedartown-Great Job! Sorry Rockmart, but Cedartown won, fair and square. The Bulldawgs played the best game last night, and the score showed that.

It was great seeing the community(Rockmart & Cedartown) involved in something again. Football gets everybody together, and so many things can be accomplished when people work in a group. If this spirit continutes, our schools and community will improve.

The better team was there and the better team won the game! Way to go Cedartown. Coach Loudermilk, your boys looked great! It's great to see a winning tradition return.

Yeah,Rockmart was at the game and was the better team, but unfortunaly penalties and turnover was the result of a lose. The coaching staff didn't help a hole heck of alot either.Duff is a good man ,but when you have 23 senior on the team they shouldn't be 1 player playin both ways.he also played Not to Win but Not to Lose.Good game for both teams and good luck to both teams the rest of the year. Also Rockmart should never agree to play Cedartown the 1st game of the year neither, just look at history Coach Duff and move it back to 3rd week.

P.S. Congrats to both teams for a great game! I know all of Polk County is proud of these guys, regardless of which side of the County they played for.

Was Rockmart even AT this game? From the pictures in the slideshow on GridIron central, I could swear there was noone but Cedartown there. Out of 16 photos, there was one picture of a Rockmart Colorguard and one picture of the RHS quarterback with the ball. The other 14 were all Cedartown (except for 2 that were traffic shots). This website is so one-sided! Give us back the old websites!
