The Christmas tree at FHF Hair Design in Cedartown is the center of a mound of toys gathered for children who might not otherwise get presents.

Salon owner Hal Floyd said the annual charity drive would provide 10 to 15 presents to each of the 45 children in need.

Floyd said the children are those in the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) system. Client Jane Crane, who has been involved with the drive, said these children are not foster children, but those living with their parents.

She said these kids would typically fall through the cracks on charity giving without this particularly event.

“These are kids DFCS is working with so they wouldn’t get anything if not for these donations,” Crane said.

“I think it’s a wonderful thing he’s done for the community.”

Floyd said he has partnered with Cedar Chem this year to sponsor children for Christmas. In addition to toys, every child will get a warm jacket and shoes, he said.

Floyd said this has been an ongoing drive for several years and began with 20 families.

It’s some he wishes every business would do, he said.

“I encourage all local businesses to take one day out of the year to help others. It would make the world a better place,” Floyd said.

DFCS workers and salon clients will be wrapping the gifts Friday.
