Firefighters from several Polk County volunteer departments were dispatched to a rural mobile home fire around 12:30 p.m. today.

According to Polk 911, the address was 831 McKibben Road. A passerby reported smoke coming from the residence.

Firefighters found a fire in progress.

The home is located about seven miles south of Cedartown off Highway 27.

The nearest hydrant was about half a mile away on the four-lane highway. Firefighters set up a portable holding tank and ran tanker trucks in relay to the hydrant and back to the fire scene.

By 12:50 p.m. the flames were extinguished. One side of the mobile home was left largely gutted by the fire and smoke could be seen wafting through other parts of the home.

There did not appear to be anyone home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
