An 18-foot tree is showcased in the downtown area. It has been placed near the building that houses the Polk County Chamber of Commerce and Rockmart Museum.
It was brought from Elrod Garden Center in Dallas and erected by a crane.
Helping place the tree were Charles Hilliard, Teddy Yarbrough, Steve White and Jay Johnson, staff from Rockmart Public Works Department.
“A Christmas tree adds warmth to the downtown area,” said Brenda Leslie, HomeTown Realty. “It provides a centerpiece for the business center and draws people to Rockmart who love to see the lights.”
Lesley, a member of the Rockmart Business Alliance, said plans are to place red bows on the lampposts on Elm and Marble Streets prior to the holidays. These will be added to the banners, greenery and small lights on these posts.
“We are going all out this year,” said City Manager Jeff Ellis. “In addition to the downtown tree, we have placed one in front of the Administration Building on Piedmont Avenue. City staff also erected snowflake lights and other decorations throughout the community.”
He said the downtown tree would be lighted on Monday, Dec. 3. Santa is expected to make an appearance as part of the festive parade activities.
