Registered voters in Polk County are casting ballots early.

Early voting will be held through November 2 - Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - at the Cedartown Elections Office, 144 West Ave., Cedartown, and the Nathan Dean Community Center, 604 Goodyear Av. Rockmart.

Ballots can also be cast at both locations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

Through Monday, Oct. 22, a total of 2,686 people had appeared in person at Polk’s precincts to choose local, state and national candidates.

This is the first year a precinct has been opened in Rockmart for 21 early voting days instead of the traditional 5, according to election officials. This came after a request from the Polk County Board of Commissioners with cooperation from the City of Rockmart.

No long lines have been reported at either location. However, poll workers have noted that voters have come “in spurts” but indicated there has been no preferred time – early, noon or late.

During the election 4 years ago, Polk had a total of 14,000 in person voters. About 9,000 of these people cast ballots early.

Election officials emphasize local percentages for the November 6, 2012 election is “anyone’s guess”.

Director of Elections Susan Williams encourages everyone to vote. “We have sample ballots available,” she said.
