John Adams submitted his resignation today to Rockmart Police Chief Keith

Sorrells.

Adams, who previously served as deputy chief, has been at the department for

about five years. He was also involved in the Christmas for Kids and National

Night Out programs.

"I have decided it is time to move on to greener pastures," Adams said. "I will always cherish the memories I have made serving the people of Rockmart."

He said he wanted to do something different but has no plans to stay in law enforcement.

"Right now," he said, "I plan to take a break from work."

Adams said he was excited about his future and starting a new chapter in his life.

Chow, food for thought, I know what it should have been Ciao, but after all this is Polk county. ;-)

This is not a direct comment about the deputy chief but related to the police in general. I don't see a whole lot of stories about drug arrest in Rockmart if any at all. Does this mean there are no drugs in Rockmart.

I believe the position was advertised in the Journal for a brief period of time. Perhaps the next deputy chief will continue to serve in the capacity of heading up the toy campaign & community outreach projects. Maybe they'll also "work" on city time rather than engaging in personal encounters on city time.

Rockmart will lose Chief adams with five years of dedication to the City.

He was never offered the position of Chief, even though he managed the department.

The Chief's position was not advertised, yet given to someone who lacked real police experience. Check the facts.

Chow Baby?...Wasn't that a drive-in on North Fifth Avenue in Rome? Wait a minute...that was Chow Time. Maybe you meant "Ciao, Baby" which was a catch phrase used by Theo in the TV series

"Kojack" back in the '70s. Chow, of course is slang for food but ciao is usually used as a greeting or a goodbye.

Waiting to see who will replace John. There are many officers in the RPD that would do a great job. No tears shed on this end.

Trust me, Mr. Adams, you will be sorely missed. I hope someone as responsible and caring as you can be found to fill your shoes in the community endeavors you promoted and worked so diligently on. Thank you for all the hard work you did for the city of Rockmart and its citizens.
