Cedartown police arrested Aaron Colton Puckett, 17, of 642 Valley Road, Cedartown, on arrest warrants last Friday, said Cedartown Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome.
Bradley Welchel, 18, of 156 Runyon Road, Cedartown, was arrested shortly after the early-morning incident after the city’s K-9 unit tracked him, police said.
Welchel and Puckett are both charged with armed robbery, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and obstruction, Newsome said.
The men had parked a car near the old Zartic building behind Bee Rite and walked to the store around 5 a.m, Newsome said.
Welchel and Puckett, both armed with a gun, walked into the store and robbed it of an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.
The clerk was not harmed and no shots were fired at the store, Newsome said.
The two men attempted to walk back to their car after the robbery when a Polk County police officer, who had just received word of the incident, spotted them and recognized the description.
Cedartown officers were relayed the information and both the city and county units began pursuing the men on foot.
Newsome said a “sum of money” was recovered, but police haven’t determined if all the money from the robbery has been recovered.
He said the investigation would not be closed until police have determined there aren’t any more suspects.
Newsome said there was another recent incident where someone attempted to rob Bee Rite, but that robber fled without any money. He said police haven’t determined whether the two incidents are related.
