He was born in Floyd County, on Sept. 26, 1946 a son of James Albert Prater and Majell Huff Prater.
Mr. Prater had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County and was of the Baptist faith. He owned and operated The Bait Shop in Cedartown for a number of years.
Mr. Prater was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, David and Jimmy Prater.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Powell, Rockmart; two sons, Shannon Prater and wife Sacha of Euharlee and Jerry Wayne Prater of Florida; two grandchildren; brother, Frankie Prater, Aragon and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. James Brewer officiating and Brother Jason Slaughter delivering a eulogy.
Honorary pallbearers were: Chuck Dawson, Levi Dawson, Perry Williams, Randy Smith, Andy Ferrell and Carey Esom.
The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
