The Cedartown Recreation Department’s fall sports leagues are under way, according to interim recreation director Lee Hayes.

“We are getting our fall sports started, we’re just running a tad late,” Hayes said.

Due to leadership changes last month at the recreation department which have resulted in Hayes filling in until a new recreation director is named, the fall sports leagues are behind schedule.

This year the tackle football leagues (7/8, 9/10, and 11/12 year olds) will be playing in the Rome/Floyd Recreation League. That league got started on Saturday, Sept. 15, though Hayes didn’t expect any Cedartown teams to play until this week.

“We did play in a Jamboree on Sept. 8 and everybody done well,” Hayes said. “It looks like we will be competitive in the three tackle football leagues.”

Hayes said that the flag football league and baseball program is tentatively slated to start on Monday, Sept. 24.

“Our fall Little League program will be playing interleague games with Rockmart Little League and Rome Little League this year,” Hayes said. “We did that so we would have enough teams so we wouldn’t have to play one another all the time, the teams could play different kids.”

Hayes also noted that the cheerleading program is doing well.

“It’s went well,” Hayes said. “We’ve got cheerleaders in the flag leagues and tackle leagues.”

Hayes said Cedartown High School head football coach Scott Hendrix will be allowing the recreation department to host a recreation football night on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Bulldogs home game against Pickens.
