A Cedartown man faces 31 charges resulting from a domestic incident that ended in a police chase by car and on foot Aug. 31, according to Polk County Police Department reports.

Rodney Scott Blankenship, 29, of 69 Friendly Baptist Church Road, Cedartown, is charged with two counts of reckless driving, two counts of failure to obey traffic control device, speeding through a highway work zone, driving on a withdrawn license, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude, bond drop for good behavior, DUI, two counts of driving on a suspended license, improper backing, two counts of too fast for conditions, failure to stop for stop sign, failure to maintain lane, stalking, two counts of obstruction, aggravated assault, pointing or aiming a gun or pistol at another, carjacking, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, terroristic threats on another, burglary, theft of firearm, improper use of control turn lane, speeding, aggravated assault of an officer, and interference with government property.

He remains in the Polk County Jail

Reports state the incident began around 9:42 p.m. at another address on Friendly Baptist Church Road.

A woman told police she was going outside her home to get something from an outbuilding when Blankenship put a gun in her face telling her she was going to drive him. She responded in a loud voice, which brought her boyfriend to the door.

The boyfriend said Blankenship then turned the gun from the woman’s head to point it at him, reports state.

Blankenship then took the woman’s car, 1997 Buick Century, and left.

A Cedartown police officer, who had been to Blankenship’s home earlier to serve him with warrants, stated in county reports he saw Blankenship drive the car away, striking a another Cedartown police car and nearly striking the officer walking on foot.

County officers then helped Cedartown police in the pursuit. The chase went west on Martin Luther King Street and continued onto Canal Street.

The vehicle wrecked on the corner of Piedmont Highway and Canal Street, reports said.

The driver was seen running west back toward the highway, according to reports. The man, identified as Blankenship, was arrested by officers near Shorts Grading.

However, additional charges were added when Blankenship allegedly threatened the lives of two of the officers and their families.

Nine .38-caliber bullets were found in the patrol car backseat after Blankenship was transported to another car, reports stated.

A gun was found in the passenger’s floorboard of the vehicle that crashed, reports said.
