In preparation for this big event, the Exchange Club members have been working hard all summer to prepare. Club members have been painting, repairing, and updating the facilties to be ready for the annual event.
The fair is held at the Polk County Fair Grounds, located just outside Cedartown off U.S. Hwy. 278, next to the Cedartown Bypass, U.S. Hwy. 27.
Club members expect a great turnout again this year.
Throughout the month of September, the Exchange Club will be giving away free armbands to members of the community.
The first night of the fair, Tuesday, Sept. 18, is student night. Students will get in the front gate free.
Wednesday night is merchant night.
Thursday evening, guests are reminded to bring their church bulletins and receive a discount at the front gate.
“And, let’s not forget the animals and great art that the fair has on display,” club spokesperson Jennifer Hulsey said. “The Polk County Fair would not be possible without the support of the people in this community.”
Livestock shows will be shown on the following dates:
Swine Show, Tuesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m.
Beef Cattle Show, Thursday, Sept. 20, 6 p.m.
Lamb show, Saturday, Sept. 22, 6 p.m.
The Polk County Fair has served as the Exchange Club’s main fund-raiser since 1961. Proceeds from the fair allow the Exchange Club to return over $10,000 into the Polk County community each year.
The Exchange Club’s number one project is the prevention of child abuse. Other projects include a youth program, in which the club gives away thousands of dollars in scholarships each year to high school seniors in Rockmart and Cedartown.
The club supports the local battered women’s shelter, the Boy Scouts, and many other organizations across the Polk Coiunty community.
Americanism is another project that the Exchange Club holds near and dear, Hulsey said. The Exchange Club donates Freedom Shrines to each school in Polk County. These shrines represent great American history with displays of copies of such great documents as the Declaration of Independence and The Bill of Rights.
“So mark your calendars for the week of September 18th!” Hulsey said. “And don’t forget to try one of the Exchange Club’s famous foot long hotdogs while you are there!”
This year the Exchange is also offering advertising banners on the fence fronting the fairgrounds for $50.
