A Rockmart man will face several traffic citations stemming from an Aug. 19 wreck in Aragon once he recovers enough for police to issue them, according to reports.

Aragon police reported state that Jesse Lee Hayworth, of 236 Litchfield St., Rockmart, remains in intensive care at Floyd Medical Center (FMC) recovering from injuries sustained in the dramatic crash occurring around 3 a.m. Aug. 19 at Highway 101 and Hixville Road.

FMC public relations officials were not available Friday to give an updated condition on Hayworth.

The driver of the other car, identified as Helen Kilgore, of 6325 Rockmart Hwy., Silver Creek, was taken to Redmond Regional Medical Center (RRMC) after the collision. Police officers said she has been treated and released.

Hayworth will be cited with DUI, reckless driving, speeding, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the road, and expired tag.

According to police reports, Hayworth’s girlfriend told police they had been drinking at a Hiram bar. There was a domestic violence incident in Rockmart involving Hayworth and a lookout was initiated for him driving his girlfriend’s car, 1999 Honda Accord.

Officer Jeff Klein stated in reports that he was traveling south on Highway 101 to a spot where he could stop the car when he came upon the crash.

Klein said the Honda was split in two with part of it south of the crash site near Hixville Road. Hayworth was found unconscious in an area over the guardrail approximately 20 to 30 feet from the road, Klein said in reports.

A citizen who had some basic medical training assisted until medical crews could arrive.

Kilgore was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra truck, reports said.

An Aragon firefighter arrived and began to treat her while Rockmart and Polk County police units assisted with traffic and closing the road.

Reports said Kilgore’s truck had significant damage to the front end, but no intrusion into the cabin.

An investigation concluded that Hayworth had been driving north on the highway at an estimated speed of more than 100 m.p.h. He entered a slight curve near White River Road and lost control, report said.

As he skidded, Hayworth struck the truck in the trunk area first, causing the Honda to split in half. The front half of the car continued sideways, struck a curb and then a guardrail.
