Officials say crime bordering the Georgia Tech campus has risen since 2008. Police at the Georgia Institute of Technology say many of the "safety alerts" issued to students are about crimes off-campus.
The task force, formed last month, was convened by Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell and includes local college and university presidents and police chiefs.
