Rockmart High School teachers made the most out of a furlough day by painting the halls of their school.

Monday, Aug. 20 was a furlough day for Polk County Teachers. Instead of taking the day off, around 25 Rockmart High School's teachers and staff members gathered at the school to paint some of the common areas and the lunch room.

According to Principal DeAnna Williams, the teachers saved the school system money by providing the labor free of charge.

“Our school just really needed some sprucing up. I really wanted to see it spruced up a little bit before school started to make it nice and clean looking for the kids,” Williams said. “I just invited anybody on the faculty who wanted to come, and they came just because they wanted to.”

According to Williams, some of the paint was donated by school board member Susan Berry. The rest of the paint was purchased by maintenance and Rockmart High School.

The school year starts Friday, Aug. 24.

Oh leave the teachers alone. With the way kids are these days, you better be glad someone is willing to teach your spoiled kids. Who cares what they are wearing, especially not being in school. The cheerleaders wear skimpier clothes than that. I love the people that sit with nothing to do picking at people that are taking caring for their kids.

I hope that the new Principle will take a very close look at the Varsity Football Coach and make some smart recommendations to the BOE. Duff is a very good fellow, just time to go in a different direction with Rockmart's Varsity Football program. Let him be the Athletic Director and someone else Coach.

DeAnna Williams was one of my favorite teachers throughout my 4 years at RHS. She made us feel like she cared about our education and that it wasn't just a job for her. If you didn't understand something, she would keep trying different ways until you finally "got it". And she never made you feel like you just were not smart enough. She always greeted the classroom and all her students with a smile.

Marvin Williams was the principal while I was there- I am not trying to take anything away from him, because I think he did good for the school. But I can honestly say that Deanna Williams is perfect for this position. I hope the future of RHS only improves with her as the leader!

I do hope DeAnna Williams will look at the dress code and follow it. I know Mrs. Treadaway followed it very well. From the looks of this photo her shorts are too short.

Dress code will always be an issue! It was when I attended RHS. You really want to pick out her shorts? They are not too short for doing the work they are doing. And on top of that, there were no students involved in this. Remember it was a furlough day and school hasn't started. Come on now people, don't pick out little stuff.
