The driver, Austin Nesselt, 17, is a runaway from Holiday, Fla., according to police. He crashed his car through the Barber Services Co. building Aug. 13.
Nesselt’s passenger is an unnamed 15-year-old male, who is also a runaway from Holiday, Fla. According to Cedartown Assistant Chief of Police Jamie Newsome, the two are next-door neighbors.
Newsome said Nesselt claimed to have fallen asleep behind the wheel while driving down East Gibson Street. The car reportedly crossed Main Street and ran into the building.
Both teens were air lifted to Atlanta Medical Center.
Cedartown police have charged Nesselt with driving without a license, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving and a stop sign violation. Police brought the charges to Nesselt Wednesday afternoon. Nesselt was given a court date to appear to face these charges.
Newsome stated that he would not be surprised if both Nesselt and the passenger were brought home by their parents Wednesday afternoon.
