Just weeks before Matthew Huether, 27, drowned at Weiss Lake, he told his stepmother, Carol Huether, that if anything were to ever happen to either him or his wife, Vanessa, he hoped it would be him, said his brother Alex Thomas.
Huether knew that even if he were no longer on the earth to provide for his children, somehow, they would be cared for and would have everything they need.
Huether died on Sunday, June 24, while pulling his daughters, 9-year-old Hiedi and 6-year-old Bell, to safer waters — mere seconds before he went under. It wasn’t until the following Tuesday that emergency workers were able to recover his body.
