Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers plans to appear Monday with a group called the Transportation Leadership Council, which is opposing the upcoming referendum.
Last year, Georgia lawmakers voted to allow 12 regions throughout the state to ask residents whether to approve a 1-cent sales tax hike to fund a pre-approved list of projects. The vote is set for this month's primary.
Rogers' stance puts him opposite Republicans such as Gov. Nathan Deal, who support the plan. If voters approve the referendum, it would be metro Atlanta's biggest single infrastructure investment in decades.
