Residents of the Goodyear Village neighborhood said a storm came through with brisk winds, rain and lightning around 5 p.m. Sunday. The storm uprooted a large oak tree.
The power outage continued all night. Repair crews were on site by 8:30 p.m. and power was finally restored around 9:20 a.m. Monday.
A Georgia Power shift supervisor said the downed tree broke two poles, one of which was an important electrical switching pole. Lines and other electrical equipment also needed to be repaired and replaced.
The downed poles were located in the 500 block of Lane and Clearwater streets, which run parallel to one another and are separated by an alley.
The downed tree also caused damage to two houses on Lane Street.
Georgia Power crews were also at work Monday in the Hightower Falls area of Polk County, replacing three downed power poles.
