Rockmart police arrested a man in Cedartown Wednesday on allegations he raped an underaged girl, according to officials.

Rockmart Det. David Gowens said Nicholas Fain Proctor, 21, of 10 East Jackson St., Rockmart, is charged with rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Gowens said other charges, including child molestation, would be filed after the investigation is completed.

Police arrested Proctor at a Cedartown residence where he was temporarily staying, Gowens said.

Proctor is suspected of providing alcohol and prescription medication to a Rockmart girl under 16 years old in order to facilitate a sexual assault, according to police.

Police said Proctor and the girl knew each other previous to the incident.

Gowens said the victim told her mother about the incident, and the mother notified police.
