CEDAR BLUFF, ALA. — Crews have recovered the body of a northwest Georgia man who died after going under the water in an Alabama lake.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver tells The Gadsden Times that the body of 27-year-old Matthew Huether of Rome, Ga., was recovered Tuesday from Weiss Lake.

Alabama Marine Police have said Huether was with his wife, children and his father on a pontoon boat when they stopped for fuel near a Cedar Bluff marina at Weiss Lake on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say that while Huether and his father were getting fuel, his wife and children jumped in to cool off. Authorities say wind began to blow the boat away from them. Police say Huether jumped in the water in an attempt to reach the children when he went under.
