A Cedartown resident is charged with discharging a firearm within city limits after he allegedly shot off five rounds in anger his home was burglarized, according to police reports.
Police were called June 16 about loud music when a resident flagged them down about gunshots being fired. After talking with a nearby resident, officers went to 121 Perry Street and talked with resident Walter Villagran.
Villagran told officers he fired five shots and a Smith and Wesson .38-caliber was seized, reports stated.
Villagran told police he fired into the ground and officers said there weren’t any signs of impact by the shots.
According to reports, Villagran said he was angry his home was burglarized three days before while he was on vacation.
Another report stated that 121 Perry St. was broken into on June 14. A man called police said was checking on the house while his brother was on vacation and found it burglarized.
There were mudded footprints on the front porch and police have determined a broom handle was used to known out a window.
Items reported stolen include a 48-inch television, a VCR, and jewelry, reports state.
Woman reports attempted carjacking
A woman reported to Cedartown police that three men attempted to carjack her in front of Grand’s on South Main Street, according to reports.
The woman said she was traveling south on Main Street when she saw the men cross the street in front of the vehicle in front of her.
One slapped the hood of the car in front of her, she said.
The woman told police one of the men attempted to open one of her car doors as she went passed them. However, the doors lock automatically when the car is in motion.
She described the man as a tall black man in his 40’s wearing a brown shirt.
Biker struck by car; spectator hit by bottle
Cedartown police are looking for a vehicle involving in striking a bicyclist June 16, according to reports.
Officers were called to the corner of Jones and Pace Streets around 6:30 p.m. on a report a child had been hit by a car.
Officers said they arrived to find a youth on the sidewalk complaining his left side hurt. Police called a Cedartown rescue unit and interviewed his friend, who witnessed the incident.
The friend said they were headed west on Pace and entered the road when an older white Honda struck the front tire of the mountain bike the youth was riding.
The car stopped and the driver, identified as an older, white female got out and asked the young man if he was okay. He said yes and she got back into her car and left.
Police are trying to find the car, which had Bartow County tags, according to witnesses.
More police were called out to the scene after one of the spectators to the incident was struck with a plastic Sprite bottle.
According to that report, the victim was hit on her back and didn’t see where the bottle came from. Witnesses said it possibly came from an older Toyota with three men around 30 years old in it.
Someone had followed the Toyota and called 911 with the tag number. However, police didn’t have to initiate a search.
The car’s driver had called 911 to report his car had been damaged and met police at a nearby convenience store.
He said someone from the west side of the road threw a bottle. It struck his car, bounced and hit someone in the crowd watching the accident scene.
The driver told officers he was concerned that someone had followed him for an unknown reason after the incident.
Woman reports identity fraud
A Lynton Drive resident told police her identity had been stolen, reports said.
The woman said she suspected the fraud in a telephone call she received a month ago. She said someone called stating money had been deposited in her back account on a quick loan and now she owes the money.
She told the caller she had never taken out a loan and had never lived in Texas, where the loan company was located, reports said.
The woman told police her bank called two weeks ago because of an unusual purchase online. Bank officials asked her if she was trying to make a purchase, reports state. She said no and the bank cancelled her bankcard and reissued another.
She then got a letter recently from a company identifying itself at Civil Financial Management Group. Police called the number on the letter, but no one ever answered to ask about the company, reports said.
Gun threat reported
A man from Murphy-Harpst called police to tell them one of his employees had been threatened on the way to work June 13.
Police then talked to the woman and she said she was traveling on Fletcher Street around 8:10 a.m. and stopped behind a school bus at the railroad tracks.
She said there were about seven or eight male youths between 16 and 18 years old behind a house. One pointed what looked like a shotgun at her.
The woman said she quickly left the area.
Police advised her employer to inform all employees to immediately call 911 in similar cases.
Prisoner vehicle strikes jail
Floyd County will have a little damage to fix on one of its prisoner vehicles, according to Cedartown Police Department reports.
Cedartown officers were called to the Polk County Jail on June 6 after a Floyd County prison vehicle struck the port door of the jail, reports state.
The vehicle sustained a scratched roof where it made contact with the bottom of the door.
The jail door was not damaged, reports said.
