Rachel Reeves, left, and McCall Pirkle serve lemonade Wednesday afternoon to Alexus Green and Adrianna Pegueros, far right, outside Pink Sugar, 320 Main St., Cedartown. The downtown business was participating in National Lemonade Stand and Bake Sale Hug-A-Thon Day, a promotion originated by political pundit and commentator Glenn Beck. The event was meant to celebrate American entrepreneurship while also raising money for MercuryOne, which supports soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Beck said the event was also a response to crackdowns on bake sales and lemonade stands by municipalities around the nation, which he described as bureaucratic overreach. Beck formerly had a show on the FOX network, and is now featured on the GBTV network, distributed via the Internet.
