Police have not found a motive in the June 7 slaying of a Cedartown pizza delivery worker, but officials said they feared the suspects were embarking on a crime spree.

Cedartown Assistant Police Chief Jamie Newsome said law enforcement felt they had to capture Cadedra Cook, 18, and a 15-year-old boy quickly for several reasons beyond the sheer brutality of the murder of Domino’s Pizza delivery person Elizabeth Hutcheson, 27, of Cedartown.

“They were endeavoring, with every fiber of their being, to get enough money to get as far away from Cedartown as they could get,” Newsome said.

Newsome felt the couple, once they fled the murder scene at 229 Thompson St., would commit more crimes to get money and needed to be captured quickly “for the safety of the community.” He also said law enforcement feared they would leave the state and be hard to track.

The assistant chief confirmed the couple had also called Pizza Hut for a pizza delivery that night. However, that delivery person arrived after police were at the crime scene.

Even though the investigation points to money as a possible motive in the robbery, Newsome said he doesn’t know how much cash Hutcheson was carrying when she was attacked.

It is the policy of Domino’s Pizza for its delivery workers to not carry more than $20 cash, according to company officials.

Police are still not releasing the boy’s name because of his age, although District Attorney Robert Brooks said Friday afternoon he plans to try the teen as an adult.

The teen is currently being held in a juvenile detention center while Cook remains at the Polk County Jail, he said.

Newsome said he couldn’t speak to rumors that the boy had a court hearing last week on another legal matter. That is not a part of public record because of the boy’s age, he said.

Newsome said all other talk about a possible gang initiation, or Cook trying to get the boy out of town to avoid his legal issues, doesn’t have any validity.

He said this is where he is fed up with Facebook and chat blogs.

“All the scuttlebutt, all the talking, all that goes on Facebook serves only to hinder my investigation,” Newsome said.

“All the wrong information, the bad information, the false information does is prevent me from doing my job.”

Newsome said he has received information from family members indicating that Hutcheson may have been pregnant at the time of her death, and he is checking that information.

Her body had been at the Georgia Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Visitation is tonight from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Litesey Funeral Home.

Hutcheson’s funeral is Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Litesey Funeral Home.
