A Cedartown man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to a charge relating to a 2009 probe into on a stolen car ring in Polk County, according to federal officials.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill McKinnon confirmed that Bradley Miller, of West Meadow Lakes Blvd., Cedartown, issued a guilty plea to one of the eight charges against him. He made that plea in U.S. District Court in Rome, McKinnon said.

The plea was to one count of operating a “chop shop,” the attorney said. The other seven charges were also for running a facility to make money of stolen cars, he said. Each charge was related to a different and specific vehicle, he said.

Miller admitted in court to running the illegal operation out of his residence, McKinnon said.

Miller is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 23. McKinnon said the maximum sentence he could receive is 15 years in a federal facility.

Polk County police originally arrested Miller Oct. 6, 2009, as a part of a large-scale sting into a car theft ring. He was charged with two counts of theft by receiving stolen property and altering a vehicle identification number.

Local police officials said the case was taken over by federal authorities as the investigation grew.

A total of 14 people were arrested during the sting, including three law enforcement officers.
