According to Ayers, the tournament had 25 teams with six players on each team for a total number of 150 participants. The annual golf event draws sports stars from across the region each and every year.
“We have a lot of good players,” Ayers said. “Joe Kines is here as well as George Patton, Jimmy Hightower, M.L. Langston, Pete Cox, Elliott Gammage, Bucky Ayers, Bill Chappel, Dan Pitts, and Chip Kell and many others.”
Ayers was also thankful for all the volunteers who help make the tournament a success.
“I’m really appreciative of everyone who supports this tournament,” Ayers said. “Ann Davidson, Debra Sims, and Donnie Jarrell have worked real, real hard. We’ve received a lot of help from the Shriner’s, they’ve done a great job, too.”
Ayers also wanted to recognize Ken Woods and Tobin Ayers for their help in getting the putting contest together, and he was appreciative of John Husser and the work he had done.
This year, along with the annual silent auction, a putting contest was held.
According to Davidson, the putting contest was going to be held on hole No. 18 at the conclusion of the tournament and the winner would get $50,000.
All of the money raised at the charity golf event goes to help various organizations in Polk County. Recently, organizers of the Doc Ayers and Ray Beck Community Foundation, Inc. gave more than $40,000 to different groups in Polk County.
Ayers was also excited to share in the news that the community foundation is going over the $500,000 mark this year in terms of money raised for charities.
