A Cedartown youth bike ride will be held on Thursday, April 26, before the handcycle prologue, according to Krige Schabort.

The race will be held at Peek Park in Cedartown. The starting line and finish line will be on College Street besides Peek Park, and the youth will ride one lap around a lake on the east side of College Street, approximately 2.5 miles.

Schabort noted the road will be closed to traffic. Check-in is from 5:30 to 5:45 p.m. at the start line, which is the red fire hydrant in front of the Peek Park play ground. The race will start at 6 p.m., and is open for children ages 7-to-12. All children are required to wear a helmet.

There is no entry fee, but parents or guardians must sign a waiver.

Only road race bicycles are allowed and only children with previous experience in triathlons, road races, or time trials can ride, Schabort noted.

Schabort also stated it was not an open event for all children, but an exhibition event to give riders a chance to race in a safe environment.

Organizers plan on capping the race at approximately 15 riders.

The Clocktower Handcycle Classic Prologue will be held after the youth bike ride. Roads on or near the race course will be closed from 5:45 p.m. until 7 p.m.
