The date for one of the biggest annual sporting events in Polk County has been set.

The annual Doc Ayers-Ray Beck Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012. Tee time is 11 a.m. at the Cherokee Country Club in Cedartown.

All of the money raised at the charity golf event goes to help various organizations in Polk County. Recently, organizers of the Doc Ayers and Ray Beck Community Foundation, Inc. gave more than $40,000 to different groups in Polk County.

The annual golf event draws sports stars from across the region each and every year.

Last spring, 162 golfers participated in the one-day tournament, and according to Ayers that makes it one of the largest charity golf tournaments in the state of Georgia.

Steve Kiser, an All-American linebacker during his playing days at the University of Texas, was one of many sports starts in attendance.

Some other notable athletes were Jeff Burger (former Auburn quarterback), George Patton (former All-American football lineman at UGA), and Chip Kell (former Tennessee football player).

For more information about the event or to sign-up, contact Debra Sims at 770-748-9723, or Ann Davison, at 770-748-9834.
