April 1 will be a new day at Polk Medical Center, and, appropriately, that new day will be celebrated with a breaking dawn “raising of the green” to commemorate the transfer of management of the hospital to Floyd Healthcare Management Inc.

The Floyd Emergency Medical Services Honor Guard will lead the April 1 flag ceremony as the American and Floyd flags are raised at 7 a.m. at the hospital as a visual representation that Polk Medical Center is now a part of the Floyd family.

Later that day members of the community are invited to participate in a health fair to showcase the services available at Polk Medical Center. Several health screenings will be available at the fair, all at no cost:

● blood pressure

● diabetes

●cholesterol

●height

●weight

●body mass index

Participants also will have the opportunity to register for door prizes and have a healthy snack. The health fair will be staged in the parking lot of Polk Medical Center under an enclosed tent from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

“Raising the Floyd flag at sunrise is a meaningful way to celebrate our new affiliation.

It’s an important signal to our employees, our patients and our community,” said Kim Scoggins, RN, MSN, who will remain as the administrative director of the hospital. “I hope our loyal and dedicated friends and families will join us for both the flag-raising and for the health fair on this very special day.”

you are right factsdontlie...& don't forget Redmond still has the EMS contract for the county. I don't want Floyd EMS to darken my doors! Give me Redmond EMS & they can just keep right on going by Polk. Floyd has a long history of shady deals...but Uncle Kurt always seems to come out smelling like a rose...I am certain he could convince Eskimos they needed ice. Only the very wise can see through the propaganda that is Floyd. YUCK!

It will most definitely be a nickel and dime operation. Floyd is already cutting overtime and staffing in Rome to be able to take on this financial burden. As soon as they see the first years losses and wake up to see there are very few insured customers, the cuts will come in Polk. It's amazing how this was all done in a very shady manner so don't be surprised when the day to day operations become shady. All citizens be aware that you still have a choice of hospitals and EMS services. If you are told at Polk that you need to be transferred to Rome, you can request to be sent to Redmond or any other hospital. Don't let them force you into being transferred to Floyd in Rome. Trust me, this is the only reason they came to Polk!

Oh, Polkman...YOU ARE SO RIGHT! But, alas we who think that Redmond was the best choice seem to be very few. Check back with me in a couple of years. All of those that "believe" so much in Floyd will be singing another song. IT IS TOO BAD FOR ALL OF US!! :(

The begining of the end of a hospital for Polk County, just like Rockmart when Floyd left the county and Redmond had to bail the board out. The 2 million that was supposed to be for remodel of the current hospital is going to be used for a new urgent care in Rockmart. It is amazing the land was purchased for a polk hospital board member at the corner of HWY 278/ Goodyear ave. Polk Co. will be without a hospital because Floyd is the second most in debt hospital in the State of Georgia right behind Grady. Then the board will be begging Redmond to come back and bail them out again.
